More Details

Varian, Inc. is one of the world's leading suppliers of research MRI and NMR systems, with an installed base of several thousand systems ranging in field strength from 3T to 14.1T and bore sizes from 89 mm to 920 mm . We have consistently provided the most flexible, most expandable, and most versatile, leading MRI and NMR instrumentation.

Our Varian MRI System continues in this tradition by setting a new standard for features, performance, expandability, and technological excellence.

At the 2009 ISMRM, Varian, Inc. and GE Healthcare announced the successful factory integration and final testing of the Discovery MR901, a new pre-clinical 7T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system created through a collaborative effort first announced in September 2008. For more information about this system see our Web page.

History of Varian Magnetic Resonance

1947 Russell Varian wrote the first patent for an NMR spectrometer.
1948 Varian Associates was formed.
1952 Varian produced and shipped the first commercial NMR system to Humble Oil based on a 0.7T magnet (30 MHz).
1963 Varian demonstrated the first superconducting NMR system operating at 200 MHz and delivers it to Dupont.
1984 Varian entered MR imaging.
1986 Varian formed SISCO joint venture with Siemens.
1991 Varian continued independently in research MRI.
2004 Magnex Scientific Ltd, a leading company in the design and manufacturing of state-of-the-art NMR/MR magnet systems, became a part of the Varian, Inc.
2005 Varian launched a new Varian MRI System based on the revolutionary DirectDrive™ technology.
