Russell Varian wrote the first patent for an NMR
spectrometer. |
| 1948 |
Varian Associates was formed. |
| 1952 |
Varian produced and shipped the first commercial NMR system
to Humble Oil based on a 0.7T magnet (30 MHz). |
| 1963 |
Varian demonstrated the first superconducting NMR system operating
at 200 MHz and delivers it to Dupont. |
| 1984 |
Varian entered MR imaging. |
| 1986 |
Varian formed SISCO joint venture with Siemens. |
| 1991 |
Varian continued independently in research MRI. |
| 2004 |
Magnex Scientific Ltd, a leading company in the design
and manufacturing of state-of-the-art NMR/MR magnet systems,
became a part of the Varian, Inc. |
| 2005 |
Varian launched a new Varian MRI System based on the revolutionary
DirectDrive technology. |

Varian, Inc. Magnet Technology Centre is based 5 miles from the
center of the city of Oxford in England.
