Varian's BioMAS Probe
The only MAS probe specifically designed
for protein samples.
BioMAS probes are available as 3.2 HXY probes for 500MHz through 900MHz with
magnet bore sizes from 51 mm to 89 mm.
Careful sculpting of the RF leads to outstanding salt tolerance,
minimal RF heating, and superb RF homegeneity. The Bio-MAS probe
exploits a scroll-like structure to eliminate the E-field from
the sample, while at the same time providing the most homogeneous
B-field for maximum sensitivity.

This gives the BioMAS probe outstanding RF homogeneity.
Mimimal sample heating is also achieved.

Sample heating measured in saline for a solenoid
and for a Scroll coil.
Mimimal sample heating is essential for ssnmr of biomolecules. The results superior performance for studies on the most demanding protein.

2D planes from an HNCaCx 3D run on ~ 15mg of GB1 uniformly 13C, 15N labeled. Recycle delay was 810ms, with 90kHz 1H TPPM decoupling acquired over a 12Hr period at 750MHz.
