Model 979 Automatic Portable Leak Detector
The Varian, Inc. Model 979 Portable Leak Detector combines Varian’s
latest-generation electronics architecture with a unique multi-flow vacuum
system. The result is a very flexible but easy-to-use and compact leak
detector with extra-high sensitivity and pressure tolerance for the most
demanding application requirements.
Usable in both evacuation mode and sniff-testing mode, the Model 979 Leak
Detector is offered in two basic versions, standard sensitivity and high
sensitivity.
The Model 979 Leak Detector may be coupled to either
one or two rotary-vane primary pumps or to either one or two dry scroll primary
pumps. It may be mounted on either a two-wheel or four-wheel cart or may be supplied
with hardware for bench-top mounting.
The front panel of the unit contains the main leak-rate and pressure displays,
dedicated operation buttons, and a touch-screen for setup and status readouts.
The core machine is maintenance-free and features extensive protection from air
inrushes, power failures, and possible operator errors.
- Use of large, external primary pumps results in fast pump-down times
- High test-port pressure tolerance reduces time required to reach test mode
- Fully automated tuning, calibration (to NIST-traceable standard), and
zeroing reduces likelihood of operator error
- Auto-Zero < Zero guarantees accurate measurements even in environments where
the helium background is changing
- Dual-pump versions permit gross-leak testing to atmospheric pressure
